Professional Development Units (PDUs) are PMI-recognized credits that help you maintain your certification over a 3-year renewal cycle—without needing to retake the exam.1 PDU = 1 hour of learning or professional activity. These units ensure you stay sharp, relevant, and equipped with the latest project management skills in a fast-changing industry.

To qualify for PMP certification renewal, you need to meet specific professional development requirements established by PMI. Learn more about these requirements and how to track your progress during your certification cycle.
A professional development unit, or PDU, represents one hour spent on activities that support your professional growth. These can include learning new skills, sharing knowledge with others, or volunteering.
To renew your PMP certification, you must earn 60 distinct PDUs within a three-year cycle—meaning you need to dedicate at least 60 hours to ongoing development during that time.
PMI allows for two types of PDU reporting – Education Units and Giving Back to the Profession Units

To maintain your PMP certification, every credential holder must report a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area of the PMI Talent Triangle®: Ways of Working, Power Skills, and Business Acumen.

After you earn PDUs, you’ll log them in PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS). CCRS lets you monitor your total PDUs throughout the three-year cycle so you can stay on target for renewal. Because Bluetellura is an Authorized Training Partner (ATP), all of our courses—and those offered by our sister brand, Watermark Learning—carry PMI-pre-approved PDU credits.
That means faster, hassle-free reporting: your completion certificate lists a unique course ID, and entering that ID along with our company name in CCRS automatically matches the pre-approved course, minimizing audit risk and saving you time.
Throughout your three-year PMP certification renewal cycle, you’ll need to report your earned PDUs using PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS). The process is user-friendly and straightforward:
1. Log in to your CCRS dashboard to view the status of your submitted PDUs.
2. Click on “Report PDUs.”
3. Choose the appropriate PDU category from the dropdown list.
4. Complete the required fields to describe your professional development activity—this helps PMI validate the claim.
5. Enter the number and type of PDUs earned.
6. Confirm the accuracy of your entry by ticking the agreement box.
7. Click “Submit.”
After submission, you’ll be directed to a summary page. PMI will follow up with two emails: one confirming that your PDU claim is under review, and another indicating whether it’s been approved and added to your account, or rejected.
